Transform/Modernize rolling stock

The transformation or modernization of rolling stock aims to extend its lifespan, improve its technical performance, strengthen safety and integrate new technologies. This approach makes it possible to meet current requirements in terms of reliability, comfort, energy efficiency and regulatory compliance, while optimizing costs compared to a complete renewal of the fleet.

The Basic Contract

The Transformation/Modernization of Rolling Stock

Faced with the rapid evolution of technological, environmental, regulatory and user requirements, the transformation and modernization of rolling stock are becoming essential levers to ensure the sustainability of rail fleets.

Major challenges

Operators are now facing several major challenges:

  • Strengthen compliance with new European and national standards (e.g. ERTMS)
  • Improving energy performance and reducing the carbon footprint, in response to ecological transition objectives.
  • Extend the life of rolling stock, while maintaining high levels of safety, comfort and reliability.
  • Anticipate technological obsolescence or improve the customer experience, through the integration of next-generation embedded systems.

In this context, MASTERIS offers a global approach to modernization, combining technical know-how, digital innovation and regulatory expertise, in order to respond effectively to these challenges while optimizing investments.

In Dakar, we are far from major European rail networks, so in the event of incidents it is important to be able to react quickly and independently. This is why it was important to improve the skills of the teams in lifting our Coradia machines and our work trains. MASTERIS was able to respond quickly and effectively to our expectations.

Within Hexafret, regulatory monitoring already exists on which ECE relies. However, it proved necessary to complete this monitoring in order to cover all the countries in which Hexafret operates, in particular Germany, Spain and Italy. Hexafret therefore turned to MASTERIS in 2024 to provide this service.

After a first year of collaboration, Hexafret satisfied with both the content and the contractual relationship, extended the regulatory monitoring contract in 2025. We appreciate its synthetic side.
