Citadis tramway recovery operation for Transdev Rouen

A key priority: ensuring the availability of Citadis tramsets
In February of this year, MASTERIS supported Transdev Rouen in a complex troubleshooting operation for their Citadis 402 tram fleet.
This rewarding first experience allowed us to meet the following needs:
- Improving the reliability of Citadis tramsets affected by onboard computer system failures,
- Providing expertise in complex troubleshooting operations for Citadis-type equipment,
Raising awareness among Transdev Rouen teams regarding initial diagnostic procedures in preparation for formal training.
Collaborative work between the Transdev Rouen and SNCF Matériel teams
As part of a complex troubleshooting operation, a preliminary remote meeting was organized to precisely define the scope of the intervention.
MASTERIS, working with the SNCF Rolling Stock Engineering Troubleshooting Support Center and accompanied by the Transdev Rouen teams, committed to a common goal:
- Analyzing input data regarding the issue encountered to understand the architecture of the Citadis tramset's computer network,
- Gathering initial clues about the problem to define relevant potential failure hypotheses.
This support process took place over four stages, with two qualified technicians mobilized for two days to resolve the complex faults:
1. Characterizing the issue in a meeting room with all stakeholders.
2. Presenting and providing a set of tools to carry out the troubleshooting intervention on the rolling stock:
- A reflectometer for real-time cable analysis.
- A cable analyzer to check/characterize the cable in a single measurement (wiring plan, length, impedance, insertion loss, etc.).
3. The support method used during the troubleshooting of Citadis tramset #837, explaining our approach to the repair methodology and the use of appropriate tools.
4. A summary of the on-site troubleshooting intervention to record the following results in our service report:
- Potential failure hypotheses,
- Measurements taken,
- Recommendations implemented to resolve the issue encountered.
Pooling individual expertise for collective success
- Synchronizing the operational teams from Transdev Rouen and SNCF Equipment Engineering during the preliminary stage was decisive in the successful operational execution of the service (defining requirements and meeting expected standards).
- The MASTERIS teams were able to deploy the human and material resources required to meet the service expectations.
The benefits:
- Transdev Rouen's request allowed MASTERIS to offer this type of support for the first time.
- It was possible to reconcile the urgent request with the availability of the technicians.
- A first joint collaboration that successfully repaired the Citadis trainset no. 837 in less than half a day!
- The Transdev Rouen teams, with the help of the Troubleshooting Support Center, were able to resolve additional complex failures on two other trainsets in the Rouen Citadis fleet.
Next steps:
Continue development with the client by building on the benefits of this service. Educational training with SNCF equipment engineering will take place soon to continue the collaborative work with the Transdev Rouen teams and further establish troubleshooting methods.
