Awareness training on bolted joints

Keolis Lyon engaged SNCF Rolling Stock Engineering through MASTERIS for awareness training on bolted joints.

The training program spanned over a year, from March 2019 to December 2020.

7 sessions were delivered by a Technical Expert in Bolted Joints from SNCF Rolling Stock Engineering, during which 50 maintenance operators for metros and Citadis tramways were trained on maintenance requirements, best practices, and technical procedures.

These sessions took place in the client's industrial workshops, using their own equipment to focus on real-world scenarios encountered on a daily basis.

The goal of the training? To teach or refresh the fundamentals of railway bolted joints within the context of tramway and metro maintenance.

Several topics were covered:

  • The main characteristics of the components that make up a bolted joint,
  • Handling of screws and bolts,
  • All explained through case studies based on feedback and experience with SNCF railway equipment.

An optimal customer experience

Before starting the training sessions, a "prototype" educational session was conducted by the technical teams at the client's industrial workshop to assess the scope and level of training required.

This preliminary step allowed the client to get an overview of the potential scope of work and to validate the training content to be delivered. The requirements were formalized and developed into a bespoke offer, tailored to the operational challenges faced by the Keolis Lyon teams.

A MASTERIS x SNCF Rolling Stock Engineering collaboration

Technical experts and account managers from SNCF Rolling Stock Engineering, along with MASTERIS account managers, came together on this project to meet the client's expectations.

This synergy between the various SNCF Rolling Stock entities made it possible to offer a format adapted to the essentials of bolted joints over a single day [The original ASBOUL training is broken down into 5 modules spanning several days].

Following these training sessions, Keolis expressed their satisfaction to our teams, notably opening the door to future collaborations and other training opportunities.

  • Client testimonial, Sébastien GONDRET - Heavy Rail Maintenance Production Manager
"Positive feedback on the educational training for our maintenance staff. Concrete illustrative cases were presented regarding railway bolted joints, serving as a reminder of the safety requirements for the daily maintenance of our urban equipment."
  • Trainer testimonial
