Supporting SIMOUV with the KFS system for Citadis trams

Support for the automatic braking system admission process
 

MASTERIS provided support for the validation of a new safety mounting bracket on the Citadis 302 tramsets in Valenciennes. This transport network features a unique single-track section that requires safety monitoring for tram crossings. A KFS automatic stop safety device is used to trigger an emergency brake (EB) automatically if trams pass a signal at red. Following several operational incidents since 2014, SIMOUV called upon the expertise of MASTERIS.

The three stages of the engineering mission:

Defining the technical opinion regarding the design of a new bracket

• Organizing coordination between all suppliers and our technical specialists to obtain all technical documentation related to the modification,
• Defining the technical opinion for downstream review with the STRMTG.

Validating the integration of the new safety system

• Analyzing all supplier technical documents to compile a technical opinion file on the electrical and mechanical integration of the system modification
• Creating electrical wiring diagrams for the system modification,
• Verifying the installation of the new system's mounting provisions on the 30 Citadis tramsets during the retrofit operation at the client's site.

Compiling the safety file

• Managing the validation of the new system with Bureau Veritas,
• Supervising static and dynamic testing of the modified trainsets with the new system at the client's site.

MASTERIS met key customer satisfaction challenges regarding quality, deadlines, safety, and costs. Our added value in the operational management of multidisciplinary activities and the approval of the new safety system by the safety authority were decisive for the success of this project. Building a close relationship with the metropolitan area allowed us to effectively meet the expectations of the client, who entrusted us with additional services to support the maintenance of their Citadis trainsets over 900,000 km.
